Every word on screen, right when it is said.
Upload a video and FreeClip adds word-by-word captions automatically — burned into the video, with the current word highlighted. Your video keeps its shape and length, and you also get SRT and VTT caption files. Free, with no watermark.

Why add captions to your videos?
Most people scroll social feeds with the sound off. Without captions, a talking-head video is just a face moving its lips, and the viewer is gone before the point lands. Captions keep people watching, make your video accessible to viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, and help anyone watching in a second language follow along.
Typing captions by hand, or fixing the timing of each line in an editor, takes far longer than the video itself. An auto caption generator does the transcription and the timing for you, so all that is left is to watch the result and post it.
Two ways to use FreeClip
| Captions only | Clips | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Your whole video with captions added | 3–5 short highlight clips |
| Shape | Same aspect ratio as your upload | Vertical 9:16, centered on the speaker |
| Length | Unchanged — nothing is cut | Usually 20–60 seconds per clip |
| Longest upload | 15 minutes | 60 minutes |
| Caption files | SRT and VTT | Captions burned in |
Pick Captions only when the video is already the cut you want to post. Pick Clips when you have a long recording and want short highlights from it.
What the captions look like
- Word-by-word highlighting. Captions appear a few words at a time, and the word being spoken is highlighted so the eye follows the voice.
- Burned into the video. The captions are part of the picture, so they show up on every platform and every player, even ones that ignore caption files.
- Your original framing. Landscape stays landscape, vertical stays vertical, and square stays square.
- Automatic language detection. English, Spanish, Chinese and many other languages are recognized without any setting.
- SRT and VTT files. Use them as closed captions on YouTube, in a course platform or on your own website player.
Who uses auto captions
- Creators posting talking videos to TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
- Teachers and course makers who want lessons that are easier to follow and accessible.
- Marketers adding captions to product demos and ads that autoplay on mute.
- Podcasters and interviewers sharing a short video segment as it is.
Why a free tool with no sign-up
Many caption apps ask for an account before the first upload, then add a watermark until you pay. FreeClip does neither: upload a video and download the captioned result, with no logo on it. Your files are deleted after 24 hours, so download what you need right away.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is this auto caption generator free?
Yes. You can caption 3 videos a day without an account, or 5 a day when signed in. There is no watermark and no credit card. Each video can be up to 15 minutes long and 2 GB.
How accurate are the auto captions?
Captions come from a speech-recognition model that times every word. It works best with clear audio: one person speaking at a time, little background music and a microphone close to the speaker. Heavy noise, overlapping voices and strong music make mistakes more likely, so watch the result before you post it.
How do I generate captions from a video?
Choose Captions only in the uploader, then drop in your video file. FreeClip transcribes the speech, burns word-by-word captions into the video and gives you a download link for the MP4 plus SRT and VTT files.
Can I add captions to a video without a watermark?
Yes. The captioned video has no logo, watermark or end card, whether you use an account or not.
Can I export the captions as a file?
Yes. Along with the captioned MP4 you can download the captions as an SRT file and a VTT file, with the same timing as the captions in the video. Upload either one to YouTube or another platform that accepts caption files.
Does it work for languages other than English?
Yes. The spoken language is detected automatically, so you do not need to pick it. Captions are written in the language that is spoken in the video; they are not translated.
